When your looking for a web hosting company to start your website, the cost is the first thing people usually consider, but there are other considerations. Make sure the web hosting company has a customer service department, this may be very important if the worst should happen when your uploading files, for example.

Make sure your webhosting company will be able your bandwidth and storage needs(most like this won't be a problem).

Know what operating system you need. Some website applications may require a windows operating system be installed on you server. However most people are better off with a Linux sever. A Linux server isn't something to be scared of, trust me. The hosting company will do all the hard stuff, all  you need to worry about is writing good content or promoting your online store.

Many hosting companies offer special apps that can be installed on your server for various website needs: Ecommerce, Wordpress, Wiki, Forum software.
